Home of the Miami HEAT is Among First LEED Certified Arenas in U.S.

MIAMI, FL (April 7, 2009) – The AmericanAirlines Arena, Miami’s top sports and entertainment venue and home of the 2006 NBA Champion Miami HEAT, announced today that it has been awarded LEED Certification for Existing Buildings: Operations & Maintenance by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). LEED is the USGBC’s leading rating system for designing and constructing the world’s greenest, most energy-efficient, and high performing buildings.

The AmericanAirlines Arena and the Philips Arena in Atlanta received LEED certification on the same day, and were the first two arenas in the country to receive this prestigious designation by the USGBC.

“Achieving LEED certification is a great affirmation of the AmericanAirlines Arena’s commitment to energy conservation and environmentally responsible operations,” said Eric Woolworth, president of The HEAT Group’s Business Operations. “Being among the first arenas in the U.S. to be LEED Certified, we hope to inspire businesses of all kinds to think green and make a positive impact on our earth.”

Woolworth was joined at a press conference at AmericanAirlines Arena by City of Miami Mayor Manny Diaz and Rick Fedrizzi, president, CEO & founding chair of the U.S. Green Building Council.

From an operational side, AmericanAirlines Arena worked with key vendors such as Waste Management and Dade Paper to ensure the LEED certification process would be a success.

The AmericanAirlines Arena, originally built in 1999, used the LEED for Existing Buildings Rating System as a road map to achieve the coveted certification. The Operations & Maintenance Rating System is a set of voluntary performance standards for the sustainable ongoing operation of buildings, and includes a number green design and construction features that positively impact the project itself and the broader community.

Dade Paper Receives Award from Greenville, SC

Greenville, S.C.- Dade Paper was honored with the 2010 Carolina Showfest Sponsor of the Year Award this past week for its effort in helping St. Francis Fall for Greenville become more environmental friendly. The Annual event, sponsored by the North Carolina and South Carolina Association of Festivals and Events, recognizes excellence within the industry.

In 2009, St. Francis Fall for Greenville opted to go green by using eco-products during the course of the three-day event. Dade Paper donated all products for each food vendor, supplying plates, bowls, cold cups, hot cups, napkins and cutlery made of plant-based materials. Each food vendor also received napkin dispensers at their tent location to help control usage and reduce waste.

“Dade Paper was truly instrumental in our efforts to become more environmentally conscious”, said St. Francis Fall for Greenville Board President Judy Balsizer. “We proved that even in small steps, we will continue to reduce our carbon imprint and the environment”

Rick Grandfield becomes ISSA Certification Expert

Dade Paper congratulates Rick Grandfield, Dade Paper’s Corporate Director of Janitorial Sales, on becoming an ISSA Certification Expert. Rick completed training and an exam that has confirmed his proficiency and capability to guide customers in seeking CIMS and CIMS Green-Building certification. ISSA’s Cleaning Industry Management Standard (CIMS), the first consensus-based management standard that outlines the primary characteristics of a successful, quality cleaning organization. Based largely on the specific green cleaning requirements of the LEED-EBOM Green Building Rating System, the new CIMS-GB module helps organizations demonstrate their ability to assist customers in achieving LEED points, while greening their operations overall.

Grandfield has over 30 years experience in the jan/san industry. He joined Dade Paper in 1999 and has since developed the company’s successful chemical sales program and environmental service program.
